Our Mission

At Iridescent Wellness Clinic we consider the complexity of our humanness and strive to heal the whole person with an emphasis on emotional wellness.

The Vanderbilt University Medical Center (2015) developed the Wheel of Health to address healing the whole person. Self is at the hub with the surrounding circle consisting of Sleep & Rest, Environment, Food & Nourishment, Movement Exercise & Play, Daily Rhythm & Balance, Spirit & Soul, Mind-Body Connection, and Relationships & Community. The underlying belief in this model is the human body’s ability to innately heal. Participants are encouraged to be actively involved in their care with the goal to achieve a higher level of health.

There are also social determinants of health at play as outlined by Healthy People 2030. These include:

  • Economic Stability

  • Education Access and Quality

  • Health Care Access and Quality

  • Neighborhood and Built Environment and Social and Community.

THE HISTORY OF THE WORD IRIDESCENT

As a child growing up in a small town in Saskatchewan Canada, I loved the thawing of snow in the springtime. Discovering small stones in the melting streams in the streets became a treasured adventure.

The first time I noticed the magical array of colors that occurred when a film of oil mixed with water, I was awestruck. It was years later when I encountered the word iridescent. I loved its sophistication - and those childhood memories of hunting for stones.

I have been a nurse since the mid 1980's and have been employed as a family nurse practitioner for about 6 years. Working in the nursing profession has made me more cognizant of the complexity of our humanness. Often there is no one simple answer to address underlying health concerns.

We are iridescent creatures in a sense,

with so many facets to consider that impact our wellness.
